Shri Hanuman Prakatya Utsav at Hanuman Garhi, Ayodhya – A Divine Journey
By Pawan Sharma
Nestled in the spiritual heart of India, Ayodhya, the ancient city of Lord Ram, is home to one of the most powerful and divine shrines – Hanuman Garhi Temple. I recently had the blessed opportunity to visit this sacred temple just before the grand celebrations of Shri Hanuman Prakatya Utsav 2025, and I’m thrilled to share this unforgettable experience with you through Travel with Lakheri.
What is Shri Hanuman Prakatya Utsav? Shri Hanuman Prakatya Utsav, also known as Hanuman Jayanti and Hanuman Janm Utsav, is celebrated on Chaitra Shukla Purnima every year to commemorate the divine appearance of Lord Hanuman – the symbol of strength, devotion, and humility. It is a day when millions of devotees across India worship Bajrang Bali, but the celebrations in Ayodhya’s Hanuman Garhi are simply next level!
Hanuman Garhi Temple, Ayodhya
Located just 1.5 km from Ayodhya Railway Station, Hanuman Garhi stands tall as a 10th-century temple believed to be the place where Lord Hanuman resided to protect Ram Janmabhoomi. The temple resembles a fort, with 76 steps leading you to the sanctum where Hanuman ji is worshipped in child form (Bal Hanuman), nestled in the lap of Mother Anjani.
The aura here is pure. Divine. Soul-touching.
Let me share my soulful experience of visiting the Hanumangarhi Mandir in Ayodhya. I left my hotel early in the morning around 6 AM, and the city was already alive with the spiritual energy of the Kumbh crowd. Along the way, chants of “Jai Shri Ram” echoed through the streets. Shops were playing Ram bhajans, and people were applying tilak to devotees on the roadside.
The cool morning breeze made the journey even more peaceful. I decided to walk through the narrow lanes to truly feel the essence of Ayodhya and experience the serenity it offers.
As I reached the main road in front of Hanumangarhi Mandir, I saw a massive crowd — three long columns of devotees standing in line, formed by iron railings placed along the road and temple steps. The system was simple: entry from the right side, and exit from the left.
I knew I would have to wait at least 2 to 3 hours for darshan. I removed my slippers at a nearby shop, bought prasad, and with Hanuman ji’s name on my lips, I joined the line with devotion and patience in my heart.
Slowly and steadily, the crowd in all three columns kept moving forward. As we ascended the temple steps, the lines began to merge. The moment we stepped into the temple premises, the structured queue dissolved into a sea of devotees that flowed together into the main courtyard of the mandir. Chants of "Jai Bajrang Bali" echoed all around, adding to the divine atmosphere.
All I had to do was keep moving with strength and faith. In such a crowd, if you pause, you fall behind. The energy was overwhelming, and the crowd so thick that even getting a clear glimpse of Hanuman ji was difficult.
I stretched my hand high, holding the prasad, and the temple priest, standing at a distance, reached out and accepted it. He touched a small portion of it to the idol of Hanuman ji and returned the rest to me as blessed prasad.
It was not just a darshan; it was an emotional and spiritual journey of devotion, surrender, and strength. I walked away with my heart full and spirit lifted—grateful for the blessings of Bajrang Bali and the sacred vibes of Ayodhya.
